While working an unrelated project, a chain restaurant engineer mentioned to an AyrKing engineer about the need for a machine to make simple syrup from cane sugar to produce root beer.
This chain has prided itself on their root beer for decades, but many of their lower volume stores were using bag-in-a-box syrup made with HFC (high fructose corn syrup). Root beer tastes much better when it is made fresh in the store using pure cane sugar. However, mixing the simple syrup by hand is a four hour process. Even so, this chain was passionate about getting all their locations to serve the same high quality product. Seeing an opportunity, the AyrKing engineer offered to take on the task.
After a few prototypes, AyrKing successfully developed a machine to mix the simple syrup for these lower volume stores. The operator merely had to put cane sugar, water, and root beer concentrate in the AyrKing syrup stirrer. After 45 minutes of run time, the ingredients were mixed together perfectly without the back breaking labor of hand mixing.
When the larger volume stores saw this machine had been developed, they wanted a stirrer that could handle their needs too. The problem was the machine needed to be twice as big. AyrKing was asked if it would be possible to make a design change. Once again, AyrKing was ready for the challenge.
After a couple of iterations, a syrup stirrer that could handle the needs of large and small operators was ready. Within a year over 75 percent of this chain’s USA locations had an AyrKing syrup stirrer. Today every location sells root beer made fresh daily from pure cane sugar in the AyrKing Syrup Stirrer!
